2010-2011 Winter Snow Photos

First, make sure you read the 2010-2011 Winter page which covers from our first snowfall in November 8, 2010 through mid-January. By this point we had about 21" of snow on the ground.

On January 25th we got another 3" of snow in a gentle flurry. Then the "real snow" began to hit in the evening of January 26th. We thought we were going to be safe - that it was all going south of us - but lo and behold when we woke up Thursday morning, the 27th, we had gotten another 16" of snow!! The snow was now at an average depth of 35" all across our yard - waist deep! We had dug out our mailbox last night and the plows had covered it right up again. The snow was literally over the top of it! We had to again dig it out.

My snow meditation spiral, which I'd so diligently made a few days ago and was over knee deep, was completely filled in!!

The roads look like luge tracks. In many places they are barely one car width wide, because the snow banks are so high and thick on either side.

This is the mailbox after Bob re-dug it out of its snowy home.

You can see how it was embedded in the snow bank.

Our back porch is now full of snow pretty much up to the side rail. The porch is raised, and is normally about chest high.

The table and chairs are buried.

That mound in front of the spinny weather station is a chair, completely submerged.

Usually we can grill in the winter, but not right now.

This shed is a full sized shed that holds three motorcycles. I bet the doors can't be opened :)

This shed holds our lawnmower and such and is about half buried. The small bump in the foreground - down and left from the pair of trees - was the bird bath which is completely under snow now. All you can see is the snow "hat" on top of it.

Bob is breaking off the icicles every day so they don't pull down the gutters.

We use the snow blower to carve paths to the bird feeders.

Here's my poor snow spiral. I had tromped it out to knee depth (which wasn't even the snow's full depth, I was walking on snow). Now it's all completely solid again!

After I took this photo I did go out and re-do the spiral which is now thigh deep and which has another foot or so beneath my feet when I walk. The snow is packed in layers now.

We had a few days of quiet here.
