Sex Offenders - Sutton MA Police Department
Massachusetts has a tiered system of registered sex offenders. As you probably know, a person can be tagged with the permanent status of "sex offender" for doing something as relatively mild as urinating in public (for example at the side of a rural road when they're nowhere else to go). The government - rightly, in my mind - did not want these minor acts to be mixed in with the more serious acts of violating a young child. They classify the most serious offenders as Level 3 Offenders - the highest of the three levels.
The Mass.gov website explains:
Pursuant to M.G.L. C. 6, §§ 178C - 178P, the individuals who appear on the following notifications have been designated a Level 3 Sex Offenders by the Sex Offender Registry Board. The Board has determined that these individuals have a high risk to reoffend and that the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active community notification.
The Massachusetts state government keeps an always-up-to-date listing of current Level 3 Sex Offenders in a searchable database. You can see their names, photos, home, and work locations.
As of 2011 there were two such offenders in Sutton. One lives in Sutton, while the other lives elsewhere and works in Sutton.
