Male Autumn Meadowhawk Dragonfly

There are many types of Meadowhawk dragonflies. They look very similar to each other! This specific one is the Autumn Meadowhawk, or Sympetrum vicinum. These photos were all taken in Sutton Massachusetts, and they are all of the male. You can tell it's male by its red color - the females are brown. You can tell it's an Autumn Meadowhawk by its yellow legs.

This first male autumn meadowhawk was spotted at the pond at Purgatory Chasm.

This next male autumn meadowhawk was on our back porch in September. By the end of September, most other dragonflies have left for the season. If you see a meadowhawk at this time of year, it's most likely an Autumn meadowhawk.
