Wintercress
Wintercress - or Barbarea vulgaris - grows all over Sutton Massachusetts but it is not a native plant. This plant originally comes from Europe and its leaves were useful in preventing scurvy. For that reason, sailors brought it along with them and planted it wherever they landed. Wintercress is a bushy wildflower that has four yellow petals. The plant grows in large clumps. These photos were taken at the Blackstone National Golf Course in May.
This next photo may be hard to see, but there are a whole row of wintercress plants along the ravine of the fairway.
