Indian Pipes

First let me say that I know these are not mushrooms! They are interesting types of plants which do NOT have chlorophyll. Also known as the "Corpse Plant", they are Monotropa uniflora and grow in places that mushrooms grow. That's why I have them in this area of the site.

In essence this plant gets its energy not from the sun, but from other plants near it.

These Indian Pipes were photographed at Purgatory Chasm. They are about 4 inches tall.

These were also photographed at Purgatory Chasm.

Please do not eat any of the items I mention on the site! I am not an expert. Always talk with an expert before eating any mushroom or plant.
