February is the deepest heart of winter, but you can also sense that spring is around the corner. Some weeks you get a foot of snow, other days it's in the 50s, the sun is shining, and you have all of your windows open. Sometimes the two happen only a day apart. It's pretty amazing. Sometimes the snow is light and fluffy, with large flakes. Sometimes it's harsh and driving, creating a crunchy layer over everything.

The next sequence of photos was taken on Feb 4, 2005. We already had about 2' of snow on the ground from a super snowy January, and then we got another 3" or so on top of it, of light, very fluffy snow. It stuck to all the branches like frosting and looked simply gorgeous.
