Ground Crab Spider / Thomisidae xysticus
In the spider family first you have Entelegynes - the main group of spiders. Within that you have Crab Spiders - Thomisidae. Then the genus is xysticus which is for the ground crab spiders. Ground Crab Spiders have black and yellow stripes on their main body, like a bumble bee. Their front part is dark brown. Their legs are dark brown on the top half and pale tan on the bottom half. These were in our driveway, there was a pair of them. We've been told by BugGuide that the pronounced stripes are interesting. Click on any image to see the larger version.
