Heqet - Egyptian Frog Goddess
Egypt was a land dependent on the Nile for its life. Every year when the Nile flooded, thousands of frogs would arrive. This was the time of growth and fertility. It's not much of a surprise that the Egyptians had a frog goddess, Heqet, who represented fertility.
Heqet was represented either by a frog or by a woman with a frog's head. Another way to representing her was a frog sitting on a lotus.
Egyptian women who were pregnant or about to give birth often prayed to Heqet for a healthy baby and a safe delivery.
Interestingly, Heqet was the one who helped Osirus resurrect, so one of her sayings was, "I am the resurrection." This was often shown on her amulets. When Christians came along, they began using those same amulets.
