Spring Peeper Frog - Frogs and Toads in Sutton Massachusetts
Spring peeper frogs are tiny little frogs - only 1 inch in length - which hibernate by freezing their bodies all winter long. Then when they thaw out in the spring they decide they want to find a mate. They start peeping, at dusk, at the top of their little lungs. It sounds like little chimes or peeps! When they all get going in a group, the noise can be deafening.
They live in swampy areas, and they start singing just about Spring Equinox time, mid March. The below video was taken on March 20, 2010. Despite my best efforts, I have never been able to take a photo of a peeper! They are elusive!
