Soldier Beetle

Soldier Beetles are delightful bugs that you definitely want to be in your garden. They are part of the Family Cantharidae and don't bite humans. They have red to orange bodies, with long delicate antennae. Their long beetle wings are dark black. They're about a half inch long. They're related to the firefly.

They're called soldier beetles because some varieties have color combinations which resemble British soldier uniforms.

Not only do soldier beetles eat garden pests but they also pollinate flowers nearly as well as bees do.

Plant lots of marigold, daisy, and goldenrod to draw the friendly soldier beetles into your garden!
