Net Winged Beetle - Bugs and Beetles in Sutton Massachusetts
The Net Winged Beetle is gorgeous! It has netted orange wings with black spots. They are bright orange and dark black just like for Halloween!
Net winged beetles fall in with fireflies and soldier beetles. The net wing family is the Lycidae family beneath that. This might be either the Calopteron discrepans or Calopteron reticulatum - to me they look exactly alike so I'm not sure how to distinguish it.
This poor net winged beetle has a tiny bite taken out of one of its wings.
This second one was sitting on a planter right next to its relative, the Firefly!
